The news on PriusChat looks like there will be an update available for the New Prius for cars built before January to receive the new brake software. Whilst it may be handled as a recall in the US and Japan, reading between the lines it looks like the rest of the world including Europe & UK may get an SSC (Special Service Campaign). Which I assume means the fix will be applied at the next service?

This has leaked out via the Japanese Press via the Nikkei News Service with still no official word from Toyota.

I think we just need to wait and see what happens. I'm sure Toyota will do the right thing. It just seems untenable to me not to update the first cars when an update has been implemented at the factory and also not to update all cars as they are all built at the same factory.

The other issue I'm worried about is resale value. I dont want in 3 years time to see Prius buyers guides effectively saying avoid cars built before Jan 2010 because of the brakes (in the UK effectively de-valuing all 09 and 59 plate cars).

Seems to me every Prius incident is getting reported and the media are making the most of the issues.
The "mat" issue was resolved years ago. My previous Avensis was recalled and they put two hooks in the floor which holes in the mat go into. thus preventing the mat slipping forward. When I purchased my Prius the dealer fitted the mats and ensured the floor hooks were fitted.
The brake issue is being resolved with new software according to Toyota. I am not sure if the brake problem applies to the Gen 2 Prius. Over the years I have had many cars and the Toyota cars in my opinion are the best and the customer service I have received has been excellent.
I did own a British Leyland Montego once; having experienced the poor standard of build and the rotten dealer service then you appreciate the service Toyota give.
I understand the accelerator issue is being resolved and customers will be informed when to take their car in.
I have complete faith in Toyota despite all the adverse publicity.

Have just seen on Prius Chat that the LA times have run a story with a list of all the problems reported by gen2 owners over the past x years and are presenting it as a failure of the new prius.

It wouldn't surprise me if hack journos in the pay of GM and Ford are really stoking this up during a slow news week.
