The more enlightened members on this forum, as well as PC and PoL members, know perfectly well that exactly the same issue is experienced with the Gen 2 or, at least, later models of the car. My 57 plate Prius suffers from it all the time especially when the wheel skips over, say, a drain cover whilst braking. The immediate loss of feel and the frantic flashing of the traction light makes for quite an unpleasant second or so of seemingly being sans brakes. Toyota Centres have long said it's a Prius thing due to the combo of friction brakes and regen brakes. So, now that the dirty washing is out are we going to see the media pick up on later models of the Gen 2 being affected too? My old 56 model Prius was fine but the 57 model is bad with the skipping.

That Honda CR-Z released in the Summer suddenly looks more appealing.

Don't you worry about me. I'm reading everything going on the CR-Z before I commit. I'd have it for the DRL's though I'm fitting DRL's this weekend to the Prius and the wife's Fiesta.

My late 2008 has been fine. I think it has only happened twice in the year and a bit that I've had the car, although I don't do a lot of miles.

My tyres still have good tread. I check the pressures fairly often, last weekend I had to let 1 psi out of each tyre because I was up to 39.8 psi on the front tyres, I usually set the front to 37 psi but I hadn't checked them since it was last in the minus degree temperatures around here, and I had noticed that the ride was too firm for my liking.

I too had had that Habu in my gen 2 58 plate, its never EVER felt like the car is out of control or in any way doing something dangerous, damn media is just stirring things up!

I have the same problem on my 55 plate.
I have rung the 0800 number and got a reference number from them.
I'm having mine checked out this Saturday.
The ABS software or whatever is different to the Gen3 they explained so the 'fix' may not be the same.
We'll see.

I am fairly certain that the fix to the Gen3 braking issue does NOT apply to the earlier models.

I drive a Gen2 05 reg and have very occasionally (about 3 times in 5 years)
noticed a slight odd behaviour of the brakes at low speed. Never has it been
enough to make me worry about it or complain to Toyota.

In the case of the Gen3 as a result of the design change it seems they didn't
quite get the tuning right (for what is still a very specific and infrequent set
of circumstances) and so when they realised this they carried out a change on
the production line. I strongly believe that if the furore hadn't blown up
in the media then the fix for the Gen3s would have been rolled out anyway
as a SSC as owners came in for regular services.

Remember the Gen2 Steering recall was carried out without AFAIK anyone
actually experiencing its potential problem.

Toyota know better than to jeapordise their current and prospective future
customers.

Nope I am not joking but just asking the question about compensation. If Toyota set out to proactively compensate all the recalls then that is a good gesture on their part like they have done so in the past.
I did get my car seen to on Saturday but unfortunately they cannot reproduce the problem and there is no 'fix' for Gen 2 Prius as they are not in the recall. Went to a dealer I havent been to before and very impressed by their courteousness.

Some people prefer to talk off topic. Maybe to get message count instead of actually helping forum members who have real issues. Besides CR-Z is manual not auto like the Prius.
