hi all. My yaris is a Jap import and like most imports, they only come with the main black key, on which the remote is fitted. As i feared that i may lose they key and be doomed, i decided to make a spare copy at my local key cutting shop.
I got the key, tried opening the door locks and it worked. I still didnt try if the car will turn on if i put it in the ignition and try to start it. If i use this key to start the car, will the immobiliser come into action? or will it start with no problems?
thanks

sounds like a 'suck it and see' situation. Give it a try, but keep the other one handy just in case.

It won't start as that key can't be recognized by the immobiliser system. It will also set a trouble code into the system (B2795/99).

yeah the key has an in built chip thingy to do with immobiliser! you cant just go to key cutting place and get spares cut, you have to do it through toyota and they set it all up.

if you get a blank one, from toyota, or ebay, i have seen one, get it cut, then you have to program it, by going into porgramming mode and blah blah, its in the sticky thread in yaris...

Mine is also an import from japan. I also only got the one main black key, but had another one cut and it works fine with the car. Correct me if i'm wrong, but do the imports actually have an immobiliser in them? because if they did, in theory, they would supply you with the key with the remote? hence why i got an alarm fitted to my vitz...Same applys to my mate's 13.l vitz rs....only the one black key

Mine is a jap spec vitz. There are a few differences between the two. Maybe it's just something with the second hand jap spec vitz?
