Hi there

hope you can help as we are pulling our hair out :ffs:

WE have lost the keys to our hilux its 98 2.4 td anyway no one can help, the main dealer in cardiff no offence are cr*p & have told us varying stories.

We broke the ignition lock as they said it wasnt chipped no we are told it is chipped yet they dont know what the code is  how stupid is that, so we have a truck on the driveway we cant drive!!!

Please can anyone help as I have to transport 2 dogs to the otherside of the country next week (we are involved with dog rescue) so basically we are a rescue with out the transport.

I am so darn angry, any suggestions please!!

thanks in advance

any main dealer for toyota should by using the vehicles chassis number be able to get you keys , weather its chipped or not. A chipped key may set you back 100 to 250 quid :shutit:
JRH
nope sorry information incorrect :( Toyota do not keep any record of codes, all they can supply are blank keys.

So the chassis number means nowt to them in they case they are adamant it cannot be done :ffs:

i think your gonna have to go to a toyota dealer and get new keys and the system that goes with it they can cut blank keys but they need the master key to code it...so no master key=loads of money :(

not so long ago the ignition barrel broke on my 98 hilux all i did was order a set of new keys and a new barrel it cost £60 ,all i had to do was drill out the old barrel and fit the new one! job done it took 2 hours but saved me messing around and now it works if you try this it may be cheaper (or if not ask a car thief heill tell you how to get in!)

if the keys are not chipped , then take out a door lock , the number is stamped on the side , give toyota this number and they can cut a key to match the tumblers , they did this for my celica when someone trashed my door lock .

I think you have just summed it up unfortunatly :( Now we know to keep the master key at home as the spare and use the spare key.
